First few days in Anchorage

Weather in Anchorage on Thursday was beautiful! It was about 50 degrees, sunny, and there was no snow to be seen. I was able to go shopping at Costco and Fred Meyers, pack all my food into boxes and mail it. I was amazed that the food, the boxes, and shipping only cost me about $350. Not too bad at all. Of course I still have a few things to buy, but hopefully it won't put me over $500. I have no idea if it will yet. I'm crossing my fingers. I'm running out of $$ for this job... geeze! I suppose my problem is that I have no idea what I'm doing. I have no idea how to live in the bush of Alaska! It's going to be such a crazy adventure! :-)

Well, overnight the temperature dropped. By Friday morning it began to snow. A total of 17 inches of snow fell on the Anchorage Airport by Saturday morning. Welcome back to winter! The people here are not happy about it at all. I don't blame them, but it does look a bit beautiful in my opinion.

Friday evening was quite warm though when Amanda, her friend Melissa, Melissa's friend Brandon, and I went to Techno and Wine Tasting. It was awesome! Great music and wine! I was a bit tipsy by the end of the night. It was excellent to pass out at 11pm as a matter of fact.

Saturday was a hang-out day. Amanda and I have spent way too much time on our computers. We did however get out of the house for a little while to see a dancing show. It was interesting. My favorite was the hip-hop... and my least favorite was structured improvisation. I just didn't get it at all. I'd probably scratch my eyes out if I ever had to watch it again. I'm also not fond of modern dance. I don't understand how it's entertainment at all.

Oh yeah, on Friday I also visited the Alaska Public Lands and Information Center to see about a job come September, and I found this imprint of a Grizzly Bear's paw. Good times!!

I am very distracted now by Coupling (what an awesome British show!!), so I need to stop writing. My blog is now updated anyhow.

Signing off for now!

Busy time!

Amanda arrived on Wednesday the 16th, Blossom arrived the next day, then on Friday we went to Vegas.

The drive there was pretty great. We stopped twice; once for the outlet stores and once for Greek food at the Mad Greek "Best Gyros in the world" apparently. I of course had to get a picture of me holding David's buttocks in memory of the time in Australia when my mom took a picture of the same thing. :-)

While in Vegas on Friday I developed a slight cold, which I ignored. Friday night started with a show at the Mirage; Cirque... LOVE. The Beatles show. It was good, but it wasn't the "WOW" Cirque show I imagined it would be. Immediately after the show we had dinner, because we had not had a chance to eat dinner before the show. While at dinner my high school buddy, Will, met us. He has been an elementary school teacher in Las Vegas for a few years now. He had heaps of funny stories to tell. It's amazing how much he knows about Vegas. It was nice to have a hook-up as well.

Following dinner we headed over to JET (the night club at the Mirage). We met some Canadians in line, but within about 15 minutes we were moved to the "girls" line. We thought that because we were girls and single that we would get in quicker and assumed this even more when they put us into the "girls" line. This however was not the case. We waited at the front of the "girls" line for an hour and a half while the let in people on the guest list, people that had tables, and other VIPs. It was nuts! Upon finally getting into the club we headed directly to the restrooms because we had waited so long in line!! Once we got into the scene though it was great! Two square for each person, but that's what happens in clubs in Vegas on the weekend. That night I went to bed sick, but happy at 3am Saturday morning.

On Saturday Blossom and Amanda walked the Strip. I however took a day off. I watched TV and slept at Will’s place. Yay for 3 hour naps! I just knew that it was really going to be my last day to relax before my trip to Anchorage, Alaska and then out to King Salmon. I was fine not walking the Strip. I had seen it before, and I really couldn’t have been a good guide considering I had already misinformed them the day before about there being pedicure places everywhere in Vegas. *shrug* Who knew there wasn’t? I think I’ve received one pedicure my whole life, I don’t pay attention to pedicure places. Right?

Saturday night after being subjected to Eddie Izzard a transvestite comedian and being taken care of by Will all day, we headed to a fancy Italian restaurant in Henderson (said with your nose in the air, according to Will). Don’t worry Will, I did enjoy the comedian, I was just a bit distracted by the texts from the boy I met at JET on Friday night. He was good looking and seemed sweet. What can I say? *smiles*

Post dinner we picked up another one of my old high school buddies and headed to Fremont Street. The lights there were so bright! I was very cool to see the waving cowboy and the Golden Nugget Hotel. As a matter of fact, the Golden Nugget was the only hotel that Blossom, Amanda and I gambled in. Together we put one of Will’s dollar bills into one of the giant slot machines there and pulled the handle. We lost, but hey, it wasn’t our money and we have a good picture of it. *grin* Thanks Will. He figures it was worth it… he says he was paying his income taxes. Hahaha…

Because our gambling experience wasn’t enough excitement though, we head to the Voodoo Lounge in the Rio. Its right at the top of the Rio, so there was a beautiful view of the Vegas Strip. It’s too bad that it was windy and freezing that night; much too cold to be on the patio. I was also feeling still a little bit under the weather. By about 1am or sooner I had had enough of the clubbing scene. I was so upset that I couldn’t have fun and I was sure that I wasn’t all that much fun to be around either. I had Will take me back to the Carriage House Hotel where Amanda, Blossom and I were staying. (By the way, it’s a nice non-gambling hotel right off the Strip, and fairly central Strip too.)

Sunday morning I was feeling better so I retrieved breakfast for us and drugs just in case I started feeling awful again or someone else started feeling like they were coming down with the illness. Luckily everyone felt near normal. Blossom thinks her allergies were getting to hear. I hope that’s all it was for sure! By 11am we were on our way back the OC.

That night we had damn good Mexican food with my dad, and I was made aware that the next day we were going to be signed into Disneyland! I’m so glad that my mom found a D-land connection! The tickets would have been bloody expensive otherwise! $90! That’s just stupid!

Monday morning I got my hair cut 8 inches. Then us girls headed to “the happiest place on earth” (that’s always debatable though. Ha!). Nah, we all had a good time. Even if there were no fireworks (sorry Amanda). We eve had dinner in Downtown Disney in honor of Carl's 55th birthday. I got him a card that says, "You're how old?! No wonder we can't teach you new tricks!" Hehehe... There was a cute dog on the front.

Blossom and Amanda on the Tea Cups... I didn't do it, because my stomach was hating me and the Tea Cups are notorious for making people motion sick!

Tuesday we dropped Blossom off at the Disneyland Hotel to get the bus to the airport, and Amanda and I headed to Palm Springs to visit with her grandparents. It was good. Hot-ish, but good. Oh and because I missed a freeway or two on the way back to the OC, the drive was longer than I would have liked it to be. Oops. So I don't know the OC as much as I would like to. Oh well.

Wednesday there was last minute shopping and packing... and Amanda and I headed to Anchorage at 6:00pm to arrive on Thursday at 12am. The flights were long, but also good because I was able to get a bit of sleep. The planes were pretty empty.

Onward to my next Alaskan adventure!
